The
main house, of the five buildings on this private nine-acre
estate, was originally built as an exact replica of a 1760’s
colonial saltbox. To the detail. Wide pine floors. Hand-hewn
beams. Seven fireplaces. Hand blown glass. Hardware and fixtures
hammered by blacksmiths in New England.
Yes. And it seems like New England smack in
the middle of the Northern California wine country. And it
works. Even on the outside looking in through the front gates,
you’d swear you’re looking back to yesteryear
somewhere in who knows where Connecticut. |
That
is, until you turn and look from your vantage point 1,800
feet up and gaze over the valley to the Pacific Ocean. That
is until you experience the creature comforts that make this
a far better place by far.
The three-story main house has 12 rooms, seven
fireplaces, five bathrooms and a secret room we don’t
expect you to find. There are four suites, each with a fireplace
and private bathroom. An intimate den suitable for sipping
fine cognac or reading from a full library of over 100 classics.
A piano parlor that triples for relaxing, wine tasting and
unplugged jams. A dining room with a table that seats 12 and
a fireplace tall enough to stand in. The third floor, completely
paneled in pine, is wide open except for the train that runs
around the perimeter. Use it as you [choo] choose. |
| Then
there’s the two-story carriage house across the drive
from the main house. It has its own kitchen, fireplace, dinette,
living room, bedroom, laundry and bath. Did we mention a whole
lot of charm? Darn cute. And there’s a garden cottage
with all of the above except it’s in another place.
Wouldn’t you know it. It’s at the back of the
property next to the vegetable garden and green house.
Did we mention a tennis court with a ball machine
and all the accoutrements. A spa. A two-story tree house.
Gazebo. Gardens galore. Then there’s a separate building
with a gym. A theater with a library of over 150 DVD movies.
Or call it a pool hall. A game room. A great place to hang. |
 |
And of course, we already mentioned
the recording studio disguised as a New England horse
barn situated on the front acreage across the private
road.
Sure we’re flattered that this estate
has been featured in several publications. A winner
of landscape and gardening design awards across Napa,
Sonoma and Marin counties.
Seeing is believing. You have good taste,
so you be the judge. But fair warning. If you come to
Sonoma Mountain Studio Estate,
you won’t want to leave. |
